MATHEMATICS
The Mathematics Department has developed courses which ensure a cohesive standards based curriculum delivery. Our goal is to have all of our students proficient in all of the state mathematical standards. We also want them to be critical thinkers and we embed performance tasks into our unit plans. These tasks are aligned to the new common core and the focus of these tasks is to enhance our students’ problem solving skills. We also value the importance of students being able to appreciate the application of mathematics to real world situations.
Our students have access to the latest technology. All of our classrooms have smart boards. Students also are involved in interactive learning activities with our class sets of Ipads and laptops. Students also use both scientific and graphing calculators in class.
Teachers use the latest technology to analyze data to identify students’ needs. During common planning sessions teachers discuss strategies on how they can best target the needs of individual students.
Approximately seventy five percent of our students in eighth grade study integrated algebra and will take the High School Regents in June. This will give them a head start to their high school course and allow them the opportunity to access advance placement courses in their later years in high school.
Our results over the past five years have been a real success story and have helped to put the spot light on our school locally, nationally and internationally.
