SCIENCE

The Science Department of MS 223 seeks to inspire and foster active passionate solution-finders in the community at large, science teachers at MS 223 challenge their students through hands-on, problem-based investigations that reveal the richness and excitement of the natural world. The science department offers an exciting curriculum designed to engage students in scientific inquiry and to equip them with 21st century skills needed to succeed in, and improve, the world around them.
When engaging in inquiry, students:
1. Carefully observe
2. Ask questions
3. Use evidence to construct scientific explanations and ideas
4. Test those explanations against current scientific knowledge
5. Communicate their ideas to others
6. Identify their assumptions
7. Think critically and creatively
8. Consider alternative perspectives and ideas

In becoming scientifically literate, students:
